An Avid Learner with Diverse Experience

Born and raised in Memphis, TN, but I didn't stay put! I recently graduated from the University of Memphis with an English degree and a TEFL certification. I have experience tutoring elementary age students for the Common Core and teaching as an ESL teacher for small children in the United Arab Emirates. I nannied for four years during university for two very different families, one Navy family with five children and one Indian family where I cared for the daughter of two doctors in the Memphis area. Both of these jobs afforded me the opportunity to tutor their children in multiple subjects. I have experience teaching between the ages newborn to 12 years of age AND university students. I was an intern in the Intensive English for Internationals department at the University of Memphis and had some teaching opportunities there. I have also had multiple teaching opportunities to various age groups in the church. Many would say I have a special gift for teaching, one that comes with an extreme amount of patience that is vital when teaching and tutoring.

There are many methodologies for solving math problems. I find the best way to teach mathematics is to find the method that works for the individual student. I hold to a very student-centered pedagogy.

I had a great professor in University whose love for the subject infiltrated all of her students! She taught Anatomy in a way that helped us to see all the systems working all as ONE body, not several separate parts working individually. This approach ties it all together.

I have an English degree. I have ample experience teaching/tutoring English while in university. And I LOVE English!
