Hello, I'm Korryn! I'm a licensed professional with a degree in Secondary Education of History. This means I specialize in working with middle to high school students for any era of history, including American and World History. More importantly, however, my degree’s main focus, education, is the act of teaching itself. I have gone through rigorous courses on the many diverse ways to interact and uplift student learning. As a result, I am equipped to help students become proficient in more areas than just history.
I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee and have worked in classrooms utilizing lesson plans that prepare students for standardized testing. Teaching felt like my true calling and while I enjoyed my time in the classroom, I found that it was difficult to give each and every student the attention they deserved. The students' struggles were my struggles, and I went above and beyond to create specific worksheets for individual students to better adapt to their style of learning. This, of course, was a daunting task when dealing with over one hundred students a semester. By providing personal tutoring here, my hope is to utilize all the skills I’ve harnessed to help students achieve their goals and rise to their potential.
I have passed the edTPA assessment and am certified for 6-12 social studies, which includes American Government, Geography, American History, and World History. I am also equipped in subject areas such as Language Arts and English. A major focus of edTPA is to analyze student learning, which helps cater to individual needs. When working with another student, my goal is to provide the building blocks in which the student may rise at their own pace, becoming fully capable and proficient one step at a time.
Learning should never feel demoralizing and my attitude towards tutoring reflects that. Utilizing my degree in Education, the art of teaching, I believe I’m equipped to work with any kind of student to provide them the one-on-one instruction they need.
