My professional experience includes adjunct history instructor at Pellissippi State Community College and a position as Graduate Teaching Assistant at East Tennessee State University. I have a Master of Arts from ETSU focusing upon Ancient/Medieval/Early Modern Europe and World History. My undergraduate degrees consist of a Bachelor of Arts from Lincoln Memorial University with focus upon World History and Associate of Arts in English from Roane State Community College. During my undergraduate and graduate studies, I received the Still Fellowship Award for the Mountain Heritage Literary Festival twice as well as studying fiction writing under Silas House at Lincoln Memorial University.
I have two academic publications, one being with University of North Carolina Asheville on the topic of traditional Appalachian quilting. The second publication, being a work of fiction, appears in The Emancipator 2010. I have also had the pleasure of conducting both literary and historical research in a study abroad program traveling in England and France during the spring of 2008. It is my goal to approach each tutoring experience by focusing upon historical and literary connections over time, going far beyond the typical and less effective memorization process. By focusing upon the micro and the effect upon macro events, the ability to comprehend over time increases without losing interest in initial goals.
