My tutoring style is student-centered and hands-on. My tutoring style is student-centered and hands-on. I believe students learn best when they are actively involved, so I give them plenty of time and space to think through problems and explain their reasoning rather than doing the work for them. I am not the type of tutor who talks over a student or gives a long explanation when it isn't necessary. Instead, I pay attention to what the student is doing and chime in when they make a mistake, get stuck, need clarification, or when there is a simpler or more effective way to approach a problem. My goal is to provide guidance without taking over, while making sure the student is actually understanding the material.
I have one year of experience as a Mathnasium instructor and one year as a Success Coach with the Peer Power Foundation in Memphis, TN. As a Success Coach, I worked directly inside middle school classrooms with students in grades 6–8, helping bridge the gap between teachers and students by breaking down daily lessons and helping students understand their math classwork in real time. I am currently an Exercise Science major at the University of Memphis. While mathematics is not my major, I genuinely enjoy math and am confident in my ability to tutor Elementary Math and Algebra 1. Whether a student needs help understanding a new concept, working through homework, or becoming more confident with material they already know, I want students to leave each session feeling like they understand how to solve the problems themselves.
