Hi! I’m Kirk, a science educator with a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries from Tennessee Technological University (GPA 3.33; Dean’s List 5 out of 6 semesters). I began my career as a park ranger, teaching visitors of all ages about ecosystems, conservation, and field methods—experience that now helps me make classroom science concrete and memorable. For the past two years I’ve taught high school Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science (grades 9–12) in whole-class settings, small-group interventions, and one-on-one tutoring. I’ve passed the Praxis II Biology (5236) and Praxis II Chemistry (5246) for Tennessee, demonstrating state-recognized content mastery and instructional readiness in the subjects I tutor.

My tutoring is structured, upbeat, and results-focused. We start with your goals and a short diagnostic to identify strengths and gaps. Each session follows a clear flow—brief review to activate prior knowledge; bite-sized explanations; guided examples; independent practice with immediate feedback; and a simple plan for what to do before our next meeting. I use high-yield strategies (retrieval practice, spaced review, worked examples, and concept mapping) and connect ideas to real-world examples from my ranger background so concepts “stick.” I support a wide range of learners—from students rebuilding foundations to those in Honors courses or preparing for assessments (unit tests, lab write-ups, and ACT Science).

Subjects I tutor and feel highly qualified to teach:
Biology (Intro & Honors), Chemistry (Intro & Honors), Physical Science, Scientific Reasoning & Lab Skills, Study Skills/Note-Taking for Science, and ACT Science preparation.

Unique strengths I bring: real field experience that makes abstract topics tangible; a consistent session structure that reduces stress and builds confidence; and clear, ongoing communication with students and parents about progress and next steps.

Biology

Biology

I am a qualified biology educator with a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries and two years of classroom experience teaching Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science. My background as a park ranger gives me strong field-based expertise in ecology, conservation, and scientific inquiry that I bring into lessons. I have also passed the Praxis exam for Biology, demonstrating state-approved content mastery and pedagogical readiness. Together, these credentials equip me to deliver clear, accurate instruction and to help students connect biological concepts to the real world.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am qualified to teach Chemistry with two years of classroom experience leading high school Chemistry and Physical Science, supported by a B.S. in Wildlife & Fisheries that included rigorous chemistry and lab coursework. I’ve passed the Praxis, demonstrating state-recognized content knowledge and instructional readiness. My approach blends clear, step-by-step explanations with real-world examples—from energy flow in ecosystems to molecular interactions—so students grasp core topics like stoichiometry, bonding, periodic trends, and chemical reactions with confidence.
