Hi, I’m Rachel! I graduated summa cum laude in 2022 with a Bachelor’s in secondary education biology, and am currently working on my final year of graduate school where I will earn my degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee Tech University with a 4.0 GPA. During my time in grad school, I have developed botany-based curriculum for a $200,000 grant I was a part of, taken additional biology credits at the graduate level, taught secondary education science majors at the college level, and am currently working on my research in a Biochemistry subject area.
Ever since I can remember, I have had a passion for science and explaining all the cool facts I learned in class to friends and family. Teaching, therefore, was my obvious choice when I entered college. It was here that I realized how much I enjoy creating materials, giving students a fun earning experience, and helping people to realize their fullest potential. The best teachers from my past were always the ones who made me laugh and feel relaxed while guiding me along a challenging yet supportive path through education, and I strive to be like them! Of course, no body wants a person who preaches at them, so I try my best to encourage my students to question, engage in conversation, pause and think for a moment, and form their own conclusions so that they may grasp the material even better.
I have had the pleasure of assisting students in ages ranging from 8th grade all the way into the undergraduate level in various biology subjects including Bio 1 and 2, Honors and AP Bio, anatomy and physiology, botany, and zoology. I have also assisted college students in their pursuit of a secondary education degree, and can help with the education side of things including methods and materials, lesson planning, and EdTPA. While I have little experience in formal tutoring, I have ample experience in assisting students one-on-one in a classroom setting as well as large-group teaching (10-35 students at times).
I look forward to working with you!
