Hi, my name is Gerard. I'm a recent graduate from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a major in neuroscience and a minor in psychology. Before college, I achieved a 35 on the ACT, with 36's in both reading and science. I love tutoring and teaching, and have ~2 years of prior experience tutoring middle and high school students for both the ACT and regular classes. With my background in psychology, especially through courses designed to teach HOW to learn efficiently, I would be a great choice for your tutor. I'm also an effective test-taker, and can use my skills to drastically improve both your confidence and ability to navigate tests effectively.
Professionally, I've worked at the Mathnasium, a math tutoring center for grades K-12, teaching up to 4 students at a time. I love working with students of all types and seeing them grow into better versions of themselves. My approach is largely one of trying to meet students where they are, and not where they want to be. I often see tutors try and approach difficult concepts far too straightforwardly, and not analyze whether or not the student has the appropriate background knowledge to fully understand the concept first. I strongly believe in taking as much time and delving as far back as possible to address any misunderstandings in their prior knowledge base. Ultimately, I strongly believe in this method, as it is backed by years of psychological research catered towards the most effective learning plans possible, and I hope you will choose me to help you reach your potential.
