Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator

An Adobe Illustrator Expert - I work in Illustrator every week editing vector files and PDFs, creating logos and tracing illustrated artwork. My earliest experience with with vector illustration began with one of the first vector tools in the 1980s - which later became part of Corel Draw. I can help you to transition from Corel to Adobe for more professional and faster illustration and editing workflow. Teaching creative and technical use of Adobe Illustrator as part of a graphic design workflow, these tools and skills also carry over to Photoshop and InDesign, as well as other Adobe creative products.
Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

I started using InDesign professionally in its earliest phase, publishing small journals, creating graphic layouts, and delivering PDFs for e-pub or directly to the printing press. Working for several publishers integrating Adobe InDesign to replace the former QuarkXpress workflow, today I teach people to self-publish and I own a small publishing company. I am still a daily user of InDesign as my favorite tool for designing documents, composing text, and sending large format designs to print. You will enjoy the powerful expert tools you will learn, and each lesson is custom adapted to your skill level, ability and speed of learning, and personal style. I've been teaching Affinity Design and Affinity Publisher as alternative book publishing software and now some of my students are publishing books without InDesign. If you are looking for an alternative, I can recommend Affinity Publisher and teach you how to use that as well.
Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

A professional Adobe Photoshop artist, designer, and photo editor, since 1998, I still work in Photoshop nearly every day. As a creative professional, I enjoy teaching beginners who want to promote a business on social media, and intermediate users who will use Photoshop to create high quality content or edit their photos, and I help develop experts. Become a power user in Adobe Photoshop, with tips and shortcuts, and a deep understanding of the most powerful tools you need. Each training is customized to the needs, skill level, and learning style of the student.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I grew up under preachers, church ministers from my earliest memory, and today I study the Bible daily in personal reading, instructional books, and in practice. For education, I attended Christian schools until public high school, where I then led the Bible study in the library and after school, which was truly a study of the Bible. Graduating from a Christian college, I completed New Testament and Old Testament studies with high marks, among other Biblical based studies. As a camp counselor and director I wrote and delivered Bible based learning tools, games and stories for 8 summers, and developed a Bible study curriculum for both 8-11 and 12-15 age groups. Now as a publisher and writer, I develop Christ-focused camp programs and Sunday school programs. I continue to study the Bible regularly, seeking new and deeper understanding. I do not hold to a particular organization or denomination, but have been part of Baptist, Nazarene, Assembly of God, Pentecostal and independent churches who believe the Bible is God's Word. As a family, we are very active in an independent, Bible believing church where we serve in children's ministry and on the production team. I teach the Bible from application to practical life experience, from a diverse set of versions and historic research books.
Career Development

Career Development

In 2019 I started leading people through career transformation, specifically to help people recognize their personality type and skills, and how hard experiences, such as being fired, or lack of specific skills, can be embraced. I lead "Work You Love" seminars for people who are in transition, discouraged, or starting out who may be confused how to move forward and get experience. In individual tutoring, I like to help you through some simple self-discovery so you can understand how your personality, skills, and experiences overlap to make you a unique solution that employers are looking for.
Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing

Publishing work started in 2001, when I was promoted quickly through key roles to really understand the industry: Text layout, page design, illustrator (art editor), art coordinator, art buyer, illustrator (creative), project coordinator, project manager, creative services manager, senior manager, marketing manager, and now creative design and publishing consultant. During this time I retrained teams to move from QuarkXpress to Adobe InDesign started teaching. Adobe Creative Suite. Currently I help people create product manuals, training guides, children's books, biographies, and design lead generating e-books for marketers. I also create websites in Wordpress with Divi and Elegant themes as my preferred editing and template source. Whatever phase of publishing you are in, I can help! And I recommend that you get help early and often so you head down the right path to reach your desktop publication goal!
Drawing

Drawing

Illustrator since 12 years old, when I realized I had artistic talent. Started teaching art lessons to children after school, then at summer camp, then in private schools and as a paid tutor. My drawing expertise is in portrait drawing in pencil, pen and ink, combining pen and ink with watercolor. I tend to draw in a semi realistic, but loose and active fashion, highly influenced by years of following specific independent comic book artists and an education in fine art. I have taken the skill set to professional digital illustration as well once i learned Adobe Illustrator. Currently I sell illustrations on stock art websites, have scanned much of my old artwork and am building an online gallery of illustrations for sale.

Homeschool

Homeschool

As a home educating parent to 5 children—three graduated adults—we know what it means to see learning differently. Home education as an opportunity for parents to help children grow into their own personal strengths and passions, to re-ignite their creative passion for learning, to guide, encourage, and help them explore the world. I help parents understand their children who may learn differently to enjoying the exploration of real-world Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or "STEM"—yet as an artist I value creative thinking as a part of all learning, growth, and the love of life. I work directly with high school students, college students, and recent graduates to encourage planning toward specific goals and to discover areas of personal skill and passion. Homeschool learning is a path to discover that learning leads to personal fulfillment and success in ways that schools cannot prepare individuals.
Photography

Photography

After several years of training and shooting as a creative director and corporate photographer I worked full-time as a photographer for a few years, built multiple studio locations for clients. I continue to study and work with top photographers and videographers in Nashville, directing photo shoots, learning new skills, and developing my own creative looks. I help students understand how different light—direct, natural, reflected, artificial, etc.—impacts the image in their camera so photographers can use the least amount of post-processing. Applying design principles to framing, composition, and cropping, my students learn how light is transformed in your camera, and the the technical settings. Even an iPhone camera is subject to the principles of light, the limitations of available light, or high contrast of too much light. I can help beginners to understand how to use the most simple point-and-shoot camera to take good pictures and train budding experts to use a DSLR and related professional photography equipment to make money. Enjoy the hands on and personalized shooting and training experience locally, or work online through review and practical experiences together where I walk you through lighting a live interactive shoot.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Trained recently as a "training facilitator," I previously led Public Information Officer training for 3 years as part of a communications leadership position for a major corporation. In the past year I've led a 4-hour class in webinar presenting skills and technology with excellent feedback from groups of 20 entrepreneurs per class, and I am developing course content around the same. Directing live video for the last several years, along with studio production experience have helped me develop an understanding of hybrid speaking as it relates to live presentations delivered via video. I bring a unique perspective to help people setup the atmosphere for better presenting, such as lighting and background in your studio or office, as well as good habits and techniques during the presentation to help people connect with an audience. Finally, I can help you craft an engaging "story" experience in your speaking or presenting.
Soccer

Soccer

Playing for over 30 years now, I continue as an adult to play and coach throughout the year in Williamson County, TN, just south of Nashville. Former youth soccer director, developing children, managing leagues, and training coaches in a specific youth soccer development method of muscle memory and high level footwork. I understand the process of learning by doing, practicing, and especially among creative players, how to keep a love and passion for the game! Skilled at technical understanding to analyze mistakes and break down moves into their elements, I help coaches and players, parents and program directors, to improve their soccer!
Swimming

Personal swimming instructor or water companion to help people to have an increased confidence and comfort in and around the water, improve basic diving technique and confidence in and around boats and the water. With 8 years as a lifeguard, swimming, canoe, sailing and windsurfing instructor at a summer camp, I teach smooth and relaxed swimming and treading techniques. Freestyle (crawl), backstroke and breaststroke are my personal strengths. I can also teach specific leg strokes used in lifeguarding, and hands-free swimming, techniques used to pass lifeguard and professional rescuer tests, or for basic military preparation. I do not teach the butterfly stroke.
Video Production

Video Production

In a corporate design role I developed video production skills through work study, and specific skills, hiring trainers and tutors in Motion, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, studio lighting, photography and cameras. Since 2012 I've designed and built three production studios and i now work under a video director shooting live performances in Nashville as a Camera man, Assistant director, and now his primary backup director. Since 2018 I have been a working professional directing live video productions as a side profession, about one concert or event per month. Currently I shoot some weddings and also record webinar interview content, producing training videos with Adobe Premiere.

Great teacher

For our first lesson, Daniel went through the basics of Adobe Illustrator. I feel much more confident navigating the software on my own. Looking forward to continue learning from Daniel as I design my images.

Excellent and Insightful Instructor. In-depth learning sessions.

Daniel taught me paragraph style setup, removing character styles that were improperly applied to the whole text (how to clear character style formatting from the pallet), and adding aligned and formatted text properly to an InDesign document. Daniel is a very patient, super knowledgeable tutor and he knows InDesign inside and out. Another great aspect of tutoring with Daniel is that I never felt talked down to but informed and educated about tools and techniques that many designers and programmers may consider elementary knowledge. So, I can confidently say that Daniel's teaching style can benefit students of all levels in InDesign and other design applications as he can customize his teachings to beginners, intermediate learners, and advanced students.

Great tutor

Daniel is an awesome tutor with much knowledge. He quickly taught me what I needed to learn in Photoshop, which was to use the section tool and make tonal adjustments in a black-and-white photo. Highly recommended!

Extremely knowledgeable and patient

Daniel is a fantastic tutor! He is extremely knowledgeable and patient and met my pace and knowledge. He didn't just answer my questions but anticipated information that I would need to use InDesign more effectively for formatting a book for self-publishing. Daniel went above and beyond by not just showing me the steps I needed, but also by helping me understand the issues I was having with InDesign. Issues I had been struggling to figure out for over a week were resolved within the first session. Daniel also offered quick tips and tricks that not only helped me better navigate InDesign but that would also translate to other programs and tools. Daniel exceeded any expectations I had. I have so much more confidence using InDesign now. I am grateful to Daniel for his expertise and patience.
