I’m Mrs. Reed. I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s in Humanities. I have a Texas Educator Certificate in English Language Arts & Reading (Grades 7-12) & an English as a Second Language Supplemental, effective 2016 - 2028. I have worked as an after-school tutor, substitute & classroom teacher. I attended The Science of Reading Conference, Region 4 Dyslexia Training, & Learning Ally- Spotlight on Dyslexia Conference. One of my super-strengths is helping reluctant teenage readers. I am a perpetual learner, & use that curiosity to help me help my students. If a student is struggling with something & I don’t have the answer - I find it. I accrued 55 hours of professional development last year. I have 7 years of experience teaching & tutoring a variety of high school English courses, including 9th, 10th, & 11th grade English, Sheltered ESL, & Intervention Reading & Writing. I have experience teaching in-person, online, & hybrid. I have 20 year of experience tutoring elementary-age students through adult learners. I love using tech apps to support & enhance learning, & to gamify content as often as possible.
The first thing I like to do with a new student is to discover their learning style(s). I present the subject material in a fun & engaging way, then explicitly teach the skill(s). I often use the I Do, We Do, You Do method. I demonstrate the skill, we practice doing it together, and then the student practices on their own. Finally, I conference with the student, & help them set & follow through with S.M.A.R.T. goals related to their learning. This last step has led to immense growth in both my classroom & tutoring students.
Students' mental & emotional health is important to me. I earned a Student Mental Health Certificate from IBCCES (valid thru 6/24). I believe students need to feel safe emotionally in order to learn. I want to create a unique tutoring environment & schedule tailored for you (your child). My schedule is flexible & I am easy to reach. I look forward to working with you.
