I have spent twenty three years educating young people as a middle school and high school mathematics instructor, specializing in calculus but capable of instructing all levels of math. My students' test scores are phenomenal, frequently the highest scores in the state of Tennessee. I am that rare teacher who is capable of making math fun, interesting, and applicable.
My style is engaging and passionate because I love mathematics, a passion that is passed along to those who I teach and tutor. For the students I educate I am able to pinpoint areas of weakness that need strengthening, sharpening prerequisite skills to make learning new topics more efficient. I have the ability to take any difficult topic and break it into smaller, easier parts, offering strategies and techniques that will simplify a student's approach to a problem and escalate their success rate.
I have classroom experience teaching Prealgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC.
Choose me as your tutor so that I can make math clear and understandable and most likely enjoyable! My son went into the session not too happy with me for setting this up, but came out with a smile on his face. He was very comfortable with Mr. W., and I believe he will look forward to the next session!
William helped my son beyond what I could have asked! My son came out after his tutoring with William knowing so much more than he had before. Everything made sense. Algebra had been stressing him out because he just wasn't grasping it but William took the time to explain in a fun and enjoyable state! Thank you William! We really appreciate you and I would recommend to anyone!!
William was very helpful with improving our son's understanding of math concepts he had struggled with. We would recommend him, and plan to use him again in the future when needed!
William is working on honor's pre-calculus with our son. He indicates this online math my son is taking is a very advanced, sophomore college level. Our son is very comfortable with William's style and has been doing very well under his tutorship.
William helped me with my college calculus! I'm taking a course online and had no idea what was going on about the last few sections. He explained the basics of these chapters and taught me a few tricks to help me out! He seems truly invested in my success and I think he's a great tutor!
Spencer had high reviews of William after his first session. William showed patience and worked through the initial remedial areas Spencer needed for the first session. We look forward to more sessions.
We were able to work on vertex and logarithms. He was able to teach the concept at a slower pace so that I would understand. We worked several problems from my study plan and I left feeling more confidant than when I arrived.
When William left our house, Allie's first words were, "He's GREAT!!" In one lesson her confidence soared. He was knowledgeable and gave Allie several tips to help her approach the ACT more accurately and efficiently.
We hired William to tutor our son in geometry. Ourselves and our son found him to be professional, thorough, patient, and helpful. Our son is adjusting to a new school, new state, and high school. It really helped him to hear William's encouraging words. I would highly recommend William.
William is a wonderful and patient tutor. Before beginning tutoring sessions with William I was struggling immensely in Calculus but through his teaching style which focuses on the easiest and most understandable ways to solve problems, everything has turned around for me in the course. I highly recommend William to anyone who needs help on math.
William is a fantastic tutor. My daughter scored very well on her TCAP and was placed in advance math. She has had some struggles, however, still in learning mode she has turned to enjoy math with the confidence builder William is. I realize he has only so much time in a day, but, no other choice would be the perfect choice. She looks forward to her weekly sessions.
William is great! Very knowledgable and a great instructor. He explained concepts well and simplified them. I highly recommend him for your math needs.
William immediately put my daughter at ease with his upbeat and positive energy! Looking forward to many more lessons! She left her first session feeling reassured and hopeful!
William is helping to prepare my daughter for the Math portion of the ACT exam in September. She was very confident after her session. The preparation continues for now, but we feeling good vibes about Mr. W.! We want to see a great score for Math on the ACT. So far, so good.
We are so pleased to have discovered William. Our son's understanding and mastery of material he had long struggled with grew instantly with William's patient, knowledgable, and fun tutoring approach. Thank you.
We hired William to tutor our 13 year old son. He was having a hard time connecting with his middle school teacher and his grades were declining. My son is kind of shy and I was afraid he would be intimidated but William put my son at ease and he began improving. My son actually looks forward to tutoring every week and has advanced his knowledge, with William's help, past the subjects being studied in his 8th grade class. We plan on keeping William on board with us through the summer to prepare my son for high school.
Another interesting thing about William, that is super-impressive, is that he actually discovered and published a math theory regarding Triples and the Pythagorean theorem...my son was actually excited...about MATH!! This tutor knows his stuff! Even though he is a math genius, he has a personality that can work with pupils at all levels. He is kind, intelligent, patient and makes you feel comfortable....also, very flexible with dates/times. I HIGHLY recommend William W!
My daughter is very happy with all she has learned from William over just three lessons. He can feel what her pace is and doesn't hold her back or move on too quickly. He also goes over the reason behind the lesson and how it applies to the next level of math, which she will have next year. Great so far.
Mr. W. helped my daughter understand the material fast and with no complications. He made sure she understood everything and really taught her well. I would recommend him to everyone.
HUGE help with my precal exam. Really helped me understand it so much better. He is great. Highly recommend William.
William was great! My son was really excited about his first Algebra II tutoring lesson. He told me that William made math easy!
Very helpful, great with little tips and tricks that make the problems make more sense and faster to complete. Thank you!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught and tutored AP Calculus for almost thirty years (1989-present) with tremendous results and a passion that is infectious among students. My AP exam scores were the highest in Tennessee in eight different years since 2001 and consistently ranked among the best in the nation. The hundreds of students with whom I have worked have averaged a 4.5 on the AP test. I can tutor both the AB and BC levels as well as Calc 2.
I have tutored elementary-level students in mathematics over the past eight years and have a very firm understanding of what concepts are needed to solidify a strong foundation for topics that will be addressed in middle school. I always find ways to connect new material to existing understanding and make math relevant, understandable, and no longer intimidating.
I taught high school Geometry for a decade and have considerable experience making mathematics easy and enjoyable for young people.
I have taught Honors Precalculus at the high school level for 17 years, even serving on a panel in my school district to develop an updated precalculus curriculum for the county. My students' scores on the end-of-year examination have consistently been the highest in the district and are frequently the highest in the state of Tennessee (according to an independent university study on the most successful school districts in upper-level mathematics in Tennessee). Although I use a textbook as a resource, I have completely designed my own curriculum, fine-tuned over the years to perfection to achieve maximum scores and impeccable readiness for AP Calculus.
