"History, Government and Geography Instructor"

I am new to tutoring, but not to education. Before I became a high school teacher, I worked with individual high school students in a credit recovery course. Currently in between jobs, I spent a year as an intern and one semester in an interim position teaching social studies in high school. I majored in history and political science at the University of Tennessee where I plan to return this summer to finish my Master's Degree in Teacher Education. For as long as I can remember I have loved the social studies. My approach to instructing the social studies emphasizes the major themes and principles that appear throughout the "story" that I am telling, if you will. I can assist you with tips on how to write papers, perform research and prepare for exams. I have had success at instructing students in how to "map out" the main ideas and key information in any work they found to be particularly challenging.

I am from East Tennessee. My hobbies include running, reading, sharpening my knowledge of the cinema and genealogical research. I have recently taken a liking to studying philosophy. I also love to travel and have visited many historical locations across the Eastern United States from St. Louis to New Orleans and from Chicago to Boston. I traveled to London, England a few years ago for my first foreign trip. I have always felt that my memory, passion for my subject areas, ability to lend perspective and my ongoing commitment to becoming better at what I do would make me a good teacher. Working with this material is what I want to do for the rest of my days and I look forward to the opportunity to being your instructor for History, Government or Geography.
