I am an early career physician-scientist who enjoys teaching and tutoring motivated students, and was named a top 10% tutor on Wyzant in 2020.

I completed my dermatology residency in June 2022 and am currently an instructor, attending physician, and postdoctoral researcher on the faculty of Vanderbilt University Medical Center. My work combines immunology, genetics, statistics, and clinical informatics to study adverse reactions to medication. Before residency, I earned a combined MD-PhD from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. My PhD combined genetics and immunology to study a rare autoimmune disease called pemphigus vulgaris. I also received a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Brown University, where I earned a Phi Beta Kappa distinction and received a Teaching Assistant award for instructing undergraduates.

I am comfortable tutoring the sciences and math, but particularly enjoy MCAT and Step 1/2 instruction. I received a 43 on the MCAT and a 260+ Step 1 score. I have also edited many personal statements for college, medical school, and residency, and served as a student interviewer for medical school. My students have gone on to many T20 medical institutions and excellent USMLE scores.

In addition to enjoying all things medical, I am also a passionate evangelist for science competitions and general knowledge. I am a former USA Biology Olympiad finalist and a USA Mathematics Olympiad qualifier, and particularly enjoy working with motivated science students to help them find their path. Students I've worked with have gone on to admission to top undergraduate institutions. I am also heavily involved in the quiz bowl/trivia community, having won a college quizbowl championship with Penn, written hundreds of questions over the last 15 years, and served as a coach for a successful high school quizbowl team.

Contact me if you would like Step 1, MCAT, science, math, medical school and residency interviewing prep, or college/med/grad school/residency essay editing.

Best mock interview tutor!

Eric has by far been the best mock interviewer I have worked with. He wastes no time, directly answers all questions, and provides extremely helpful examples from his experience in medicine. He will provide great feedback on your responses and work with you on questions until you are answering them with ease and confidence. There were aspects of my interviewing that I knew needed improvement and Eric was able to provide actionable feedback that other tutors could not which I feel brought my skill to the next level. He also streamlined the amount of time my interview prep took by providing mature and valuable insights relating to healthcare delivery, policy, and relevant issues.

Superb communicator with tremendous knowledge

Eric is simply superb. He is working with my high school daughter on honors chemistry and advance pre-calculus. Eric is able to see macro as well micro perspective of learning. He quickly identifies which areas to beef up and which areas are strong. Working with a young smart teenage girl is not necessarily easy, but he has been an effective communicator and quickly earned her respect. I highly recommend him as a tutor in math and chemistry.

Super Knowledgeable and Creative!

Eric is a great resource for anyone doing pre-med or medical school applications. He is intimately familiar with the length, format and style used in standard medical school personal statements. He is also great for brainstorming anecdotes and topics to see how things flow. He's honest about what stereotypes and topics to avoid! More importantly, he will help you tell your story creatively!

I had him for college level genetics and could not have done this course without him. He made every lesson easy to follow. He helped me comprehend even the most difficult material easily. You can’t go wrong with Eric. He is patient and smart. I highly recommend Eric as a tutor.
