Hi, I’m Gina! I’m a curious, student-centered educator with 8 years of experience teaching high school science and supporting students in and out of the classroom. My journey began with a college course called Origins of Life in the Universe, which sparked both my love of science and my passion for helping others connect with it in meaningful ways. Since then, I’ve earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science with Honors, a Master’s in Science Education, and an Illinois Professional Educator License with endorsements in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth & Space Science, and Environmental Science for grades 6-12. I developed my own standards-aligned science curriculum, and I’ve also mentored students in mathematics, executive functioning, STEM career exploration, and personal growth.

As a tutor, I specialize in making complex ideas clear, engaging, and relevant. My approach blends inquiry, real-world connections, and step-by-step support. If we’re working on a tough math problem, I’ll help you see the logic behind it. If we’re exploring science, I’ll connect abstract concepts to everyday experiences so they feel less intimidating and more exciting. Beyond content, I also help students build confidence, organization, and study skills because success in school depends as much on mindset and habits as it does on content knowledge. My students often tell me they leave sessions not only understanding the material better, but also feeling more capable and motivated.

For ongoing success, I recommend consistent weekly sessions, and I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. My goal is to create a supportive, collaborative learning environment where curiosity grows and confidence thrives. If you’re looking for a tutor who will bring science to life, make math approachable, and encourage your growth every step of the way, I’d love to work with you. Feel free to message me to discuss goals and ensure we’re a good fit, or you can jump right in to a book a session today. I look forward to meeting you!

Biology

Biology

I taught high school Biology for 8 years, covering a wide range of topics from foundational skills to advanced concepts. My courses included experimental design, ecology (population dynamics, predator-prey interactions, biodiversity, food webs, and biogeochemical cycles), cell biology (macromolecules, organelles, cell transport, photosynthesis, and cellular respiration), genetics (DNA structure and replication, protein synthesis, inheritance, mutations, karyotypes, and biotechnology), human body systems, homeostasis and feedback loops, evolution (natural selection, genetic drift, speciation, and evidence of evolution), and cell division (mitosis, meiosis, stem cells, and cancer). I have extensive experience helping students connect concepts, build problem-solving skills, and prepare effectively for assessments.
Common Core

Common Core

I am qualified to teach Common Core because of my 8+ years of experience as a high school science teacher in Illinois where I built curriculum aligned with state and national standards. I understand how to translate Common Core’s emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based reasoning into engaging lessons that help students master content while building transferable skills. My background in designing inquiry-based labs and real-world applications ensures students not only meet Common Core benchmarks but also develop confidence in applying their knowledge beyond the classroom.
Data Analysis

Data Analysis

I have 8+ years of experience teaching high school science in Illinois where I guided students through analyzing lab data, interpreting graphs, and drawing evidence-based conclusions. My lessons integrate Next Generation Science Standards and reinforce Common Core math and literacy skills, ensuring students not only calculate correctly but also explain their reasoning. My goal is to make data analysis logical, approachable, and engaging while building critical thinking skills students can use across all STEM subjects and in everyday life.
Earth Science

Earth Science

I earned my bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and my master’s degree in Science Education from the University of Iowa. With over eight years of classroom experience, I have taught Earth & Space Science and Geology at the high school level. I designed and implemented a full Earth & Space Science curriculum, presented at a regional Earth Science Teachers Conference, and consistently earned “Excellent” ratings under the Danielson Framework. My passion is helping students build curiosity and confidence while connecting Earth systems to the world around them.
Genetics

Genetics

I hold a Master’s degree in Science Education and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science with 8+ years of experience teaching high school biology. I have taught genetics concepts such as DNA structure and function, Mendelian inheritance, Punnett squares, molecular genetics, mitosis, meiosis, and evolution at the high school level where I designed engaging, inquiry-based lessons that helped students connect abstract genetic concepts to real-world applications like medicine, biotechnology, and agriculture.
Geology

Geology

I studied geology at the college level, including coursework in Structural Geology, and I have experience teaching high school geology in Illinois. My background includes topics such as rock and mineral identification, plate tectonics, and earth processes. I enjoy helping students connect geologic concepts to real-world applications, build confidence in both foundational and advanced skills, and develop a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
