I'm David! I graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and have several years of work experience in the field. I graduated and passed my Mechanical Engineering FE exam, and am a National Merit Scholar. I have several years of tutoring experience working with students from 1st grade through college, so I have taught at many different experience levels (primarily math). I always enjoy the moment that a student gets a tough subject or figures out a difficult problem without further guidance. I pride myself on teaching for understanding rather than a set of rules. Oftentimes, a struggle in school originates from not understanding the foundations that the latest class or subject is built on. I have experience drilling down to find where the misunderstanding lays and helping to fix that hole in a student's knowledge. After that, the current techniques and rules "click" into place and start to make sense, which makes them much easier to understand and apply. Once a student understands, it's wonderful seeing the sense of freedom they get by knowing that they can handle any problem thrown at them on a worksheet or test.
My previous teaching experience comes from a tutoring job for my first years of college and a habit of mentoring my peers in difficult classes, especially math and engineering. I try to match my teaching style to the student because everyone learns in a slightly different way, and I also prefer to use the resources that are provided to the student since those are the resources they will be using on homework and tests. I have years of practice changing the methods I teach to match the information students will see in their classroom. I want to make the process of learning as easy as possible for those I'm teaching. And for personal preferences, just let me know if there's anything I can do to make you feel at ease!
