Hello! Thank you for your interest! I am a PhD in Education with a specialty in Reading. I have worked helping students read and communicate better for almost 20 years. Here is a little about my background:
I attended Carson-Newman college and received a Master’s of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in 2007. I then earned an Educational Specialist degree in Reading in 2012, followed by a PhD in Education with a reading specialty in 2019. During my time as a graduate student, I worked on a large-scale study of summer reading. I also co-taught classes about reading. My dissertation was about family reading in Latinx families.
I began my career as a rural, traveling ESOL teacher in Northeast Tennessee. I also worked for 3 years in Guangzhou, China, where I developed a successful reading intervention program for English learners. Most recently, I taught ESOL in a public school in South Carolina. I have also taught graduate and undergraduate courses. I have experience with all ages and levels, and would love to chat with you about working together!
