USC Upstate (Biology)
Hello! I'm Lauren, an energetic yet patient tutor with a great personality. I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from USC Upstate. About a year ago, I decided to take a career change and become a Secondary Science Teacher with my degree. I am now SC certified through ABCTE and plan to start teaching August 2017.
I am an experienced tutor with success... past students have significantly improved their confidence and grade just after a few tutoring sessions with me. Science can be challenging, but I know what it takes to overcome the challenge, successfully learn, and enjoy the material!
I offer several strategies with my tutoring, as every student is a unique and individual learner. Strategies and techniques include study guides, practice quizzes/tests, graphic organizers, and general studying advice. I also give the student a different approach to difficult concepts - I rephrase the material in a way that they can easily understand it.
I offer my tutoring initially at a public place (school library, coffee shop, etc.) that is close and convenient for you. Feel free to message me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you and helping students achieve success in their studies! Hello! I'm Lauren, an energetic yet patient tutor with a great personality. I believe I am a qualified Botany tutor for many reasons. I have my Bachelors degree in Biology. Several of the general Biology classes I had to take in college included terms and knowledge pertaining to Botany. During college, I took two courses especially connected to Botany: Plant Taxonomy and Advanced Plant Taxonomy. Both classes I received an "A". Of all the different fields of Biology, Botany and Plant Taxonomy are my favorite and thus, the areas I know most about and enjoy. I have several study methods dealing with Botany which would help a student. Study methods include textbooks, worksheets, charts, and practice quizzes/tests.
Topics covered in a typical Botany class in which I am knowledgeable in include: The Evolution of Plants, Nonvascular Plants vs. Vascular Plants, Monocots vs. Dicots, Plant structures and their specific functions (including the flower structure of Angiosperms), The 3 Tissue Systems of Plants (Dermal Tissue, Ground Tissue, and Vascular Tissue), Plant Reproduction, Germination process, Symbiotic Relationships with Plants, Plant Hormones, Environmental Responses, Plant Nutrition, and last but not least... Photosynthesis!
