I have an undergraduate degree in human services, including psychology and sociology, and began teaching in NY once my children were school age, about 26 years ago. I went on to earn two masters' degrees: one in early childhood/elementary education and another in curriculum and instruction....

I have an undergraduate degree in human services, including psychology and sociology, and began teaching in NY once my children were school age, about 26 years ago. I went on to earn two masters' degrees: one in early childhood/elementary education and another in curriculum and instruction.
Although I tutored afterschool while teaching, it wasn't until I moved down south and Covid-19 (within months) required me to change things up. I began tutoring online to help close the gaps. Keeping children's attention online isn't easy, but I found once again that by simply talking to them, using anecdotes and analogies, they remain engaged and connections are made. I tutor children of all ages and grades, in person and on Zoom, from kindergarten through high school in all aspects of ELA and social studies, and students in K-8 in math.
Three years ago, I began homeschooling students whose families chose not to have them return to school, and I absolutely love it! We use a standards-based curriculum, but I can teach it in such fun ways as hands-on projects and experiments. Children learn best when they can question and explore. I have many success stories that I am so proud of, especially since two of my students grew up to be teachers! All questions are welcome at any time, and I will respond immediately when possible.
