I am a rising senior at Claflin University, double majoring in Biotechnology and Biochemistry and minoring in Math with a 3.57 GPA. My academic background reflects a strong foundation in the sciences, complemented by years of practical teaching experience across age groups and learning contexts, equipping me with analytical and instructional competencies further honed through neuroscience, psychology, and metabolomics research.
My tutoring journey began in secondary school, where I was at the top of my class throughout, graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA and scoring 1460 on the SAT (800 on the Math). I informally supported peers and juniors in biology, chemistry, physics, and math, and taught formal preparatory classes for the Helmbridge Science Challenge, helping teammates master scientific concepts and develop critical thinking skills under pressure. These early experiences sparked a passion for teaching and a sensitivity to how diverse students learn and thrive.
At Claflin, I worked as a peer tutor and supplemental instructor last academic year, providing structured support in general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and calculus. My sessions blend content review with effective strategies like visualization, elaboration, spaced repetition, and retrieval practice, inspired by Jim Kwik and other mental productivity experts. I emphasize active engagement and patience, tailoring methods to each student’s strengths. Whether guiding an undergrad through integration or helping a high schooler prep for a competition, my goal is to build competence, confidence, and independence.
From secondary school to university classrooms, my experience spans one-on-one mentoring and group sessions. These roles have deepened my commitment to academic mentorship and reinforced my belief in empowering students to own their learning. I bring not only subject matter expertise but also enthusiasm, adaptability, and a student-centered approach to every session.
