Hi! My name is Chantal. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Science and an M.S. in Material Science. The college courses which I found the most helpful were taught by professors who made learning fun. These professors were engaging and easy to understand when teaching the material; used relevant, relatable examples in their lessons plans; and willing to provide additional help when needed. I try to follow the same approach in my tutoring sessions with the goal in mind to make learning a productive and fun experience. In my lesson plans I start by introducing the topic in a creative way, then explicitly teaching the material, and finish with a practice session to allow the student a chance to practice the topic.
I have a year peer-tutoring experience in a ninth grade physics classroom. I worked directly with a small focus group of 5-10 students usually held after school. Additionally, I have taught 3 engineering STEM courses to at least 30 students and parents. I currently mentor students in applying engineering skills towards First Lego League competition. My focus areas include physics, biology, chemistry, and math.
My goal is to help the student – in the best way possible. Therefore, I am open to working with parents, adjusting my lesson plans to meet the learning style of the student and working with preferred resources,
