I am a certified art educator with more than nine years of teaching experience and a background that combines studio art, education, and one-on-one tutoring. I hold a B.A. in Studio Art from Furman University and an M.S. in Art Therapy from Eastern Virginia Medical School, and I hold professional teaching certificates in Georgia and South Carolina.
I understand how overwhelming the Art Praxis can feel. The exam covers an enormous range of art history, media, processes, techniques, design concepts, and professional knowledge. I passed the Art: Content and Analysis Praxis on my first attempt with a score of 192, including an18/18 on the constructed-response essays.
I have taught visual art to students at every grade level, from elementary through high school, and I have also taught Art Appreciation as an adjunct college instructor. My previous tutoring experience includes working with Varsity Tutors, where I provided individualized instruction to students in a virtual setting.
My approach to Praxis preparation is targeted rather than one-size-fits-all. I help students identify what they already know, what they partially understand, and where their biggest knowledge gaps are so that they can spend their study time where it will make the greatest difference. Depending on the student's needs, sessions may include content review, art and image analysis, practice questions, test-taking strategies, and creating a manageable study plan.
As both a practicing artist and an experienced art educator, I enjoy helping future art teachers make connections between art history, studio practice, visual analysis, and the concepts they will eventually teach in their own classrooms. My goal is not simply to help students memorize information for an exam, but to help them understand the material well enough to approach the Praxis with greater confidence.
