I will start by learning about my students and evaluating their individual needs and learning style. Then I will create personalized, structured lesson plans, and we will work together to meet their academic goals, maintaining flexibility within the plan as different struggles and needs arise. I absolutely love a challenge and will put not only my mind, but also my heart into their success!

As for my education, I graduated Magna Cum Laude (High Honors) from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's degree in English. I also have Associate's degrees in Education and Psychology. Before that, I graduated high school with a 4.24 GPA while being one full grade level ahead in math, English, and science since the 8th grade.

As for my personal life, first and foremost, I am a Christian and an active member of an amazing church. I am married, and we have four amazing boys. I am also a founder, co-director, and co-teacher at a 501c3 non-profit educational center for homeschooled children.

Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I have tutored elementary math for a total of 12 years, and I am successful at it for three main reasons. The first is that I teach students the foundations of the topic so that they understand the individual parts and how they come together. The second is that I know a variety of ways to teach every topic and can cater to any learning style. Third, I have so many useful resources that help me to create personalized lessons for each individual student. My elementary math students truly enjoy their lessons, and they learn a lot too!
Proofreading

Proofreading

I have been a freelance editor for almost 6 years and have proofread everything from short essays to full-length memoirs. For essays that are less than 20 pages long, I only need 24 hours notice. I am a perfectionist when it comes to grammar and punctuation, and for simple editing, I charge $7 per page. If you need more in-depth proofreading, such as suggestions for organization, citation checking, paragraph development, and/or confirmation that you fulfilled assignment instructions, that is $10 per page (but in these cases it may be best to schedule a lesson). For lengthy works, such as a doctoral thesis or a book, I charge $60 per hour of work, and we will agree upon an estimated amount of hours before I begin. Please message me with any questions :)
Reading

Reading

I have had a love of reading since I learned to read at 4 years old, and I have read thousands of books. With tutoring, I offer individualized reading comprehension strategies. I have a variety of materials for different reading levels and interests. Also, I work on the full spectrum of reading comprehension, including subject-specific (like science and history), fiction, drama, poetry, expanding vocabulary, and test-taking strategies. For older students who need to read to analyze (typically to write an essay), I specialize in helping them determine context, choose the best quotes, and analyze for figurative language and making connections to other parts of the text as well as the real world. My experience with writing tutoring is about equal to my experience with reading. I have read most of the most common literature taught in American schools, such as the English classics, Shakespeare, American literature, and famous poets. Most importantly, I help students ENJOY reading. I help them put aside their negative expectations (usually due to their struggles), and help them see that reading can not only be enjoyable but they can also learn interesting and useful things when they can better understand what they read.

Writing

Throughout the many years I have been tutoring, I have learned that every writer is unique. However, many of the challenges are the same. From writer's block to problems with wording and putting sentences together, to the use of apostrophes and semicolons, to inheriting poor grammar from their environment; I have seen the full spectrum of writing difficulties in all age groups. I do both ad hoc lessons for students who only need help on occasion as well as regular weekly or bi-weekly lessons for students who need more intensive practice. All lessons are individualized based on what the student needs. I will ask for writing samples (if you have them) so that I have a starting point, and we will then work through all problem areas that we find along the way. I am a positive and encouraging tutor, and I have never once failed to help a student overcome even their biggest challenges. Feel free to message me with any questions you may have :)

Knowledgeable, reliable, and professional tutor

Katherine is an amazing tutor! She has been tutoring my daughter in reading comprehension and writing for the past year and has helped her so much. She has been very patient with my daughter, getting to know her strengths and tailoring lessons plans to work on her weaknesses. My daughter has greatly improved, and this is shown in her increasing ELA grades quarter after quarter. I highly recommend Katherine!

A+ Tutor!

Katherine is great! From day one, she connected with my son and made him feel comfortable. She’s kind, passionate and patient-all qualities that we were looking for in a tutor. Our nine year old son enjoys his lessons with her and looks forward to them weekly. We highly recommend her!

Great Teacher! Very Patient and Responsible

I have never seen such a great and responsible teacher like Katherine. She always gave us very detailed comments towards my son’s performance and progress after every single class. She quite understands my son’s strengths and weaknesses both on his reading comprehension and writing, knows exactly what they are gonna work together to have my son’s grade level up. We’re so appreciative to have Katherine as our teacher. Highly recommended!

Best tutor who cares a lot about the little one.

Katherine been tutoring my son who is currently in 9th grade. She is by far the best tutor my son has ever worked with. Her passion and care is beyond reproach and my son has made tremendous improvements on his reading and composing skills. I would highly recommend Katherine to anyone.

Dedicated and personable.

I began tutoring with Katherine earlier this year. I had a 7th grade education, and had been out of a classroom for many years. We began studying for my GED, with a heavy focus on math. Within a few short months, I was able to pass every section of the GED with a college-ready score. We are now preparing for the SAT, and I plan on attending college next fall. Katherine is patient, encouraging, and is dedicated to seeing you succeed. I enjoy learning and look forward to our tutoring sessions. Before I began working with Katherine, I lacked self-confidence, and was unsure I would be able to reach these goals. Now, I am starting to see a better future for myself, and I owe it to her!

patient tutor!

Katerine is helping my son with reading skills. He is excited to go see her every week. She is very motivating and gives my son feedback every class. I like it that she provides her own materials and that she is working on his reading and writing skills in general.
