Hi there! I'm Anabel, a New York State Certified Social Studies Teacher with a deep love for bringing history to life. I graduated from Barnard College of Columbia University, where I majored in History and minored in Education. That foundation sparked my passion for the subject, leading me to pursue graduate studies in history to deepen my expertise even further. Growing up, I was fortunate to have inspiring teachers who turned what could have been dry facts into captivating stories of people, power, and change. I believe history isn't boring—it's all about the presentation. Just like a talented chef transforms simple ingredients into something extraordinary, the right approach can make historical events feel relevant, exciting, and even personal. My goal is to help every student discover that same spark and fall in love with history the way I have.
My teaching journey began in New York City public schools, where I taught U.S. History and Global History to large classes of high school students, often up to 34 in a room. Despite the challenges of big groups, I focused on interactive methods—discussions, primary source analysis, visual aids, and real-world connections—to keep everyone engaged. With dedication and tailored strategies, my students achieved an impressive 98% passing rate on the Regents exams. Over the years, I've worked with teenagers from diverse backgrounds, adapting lessons to different learning styles: visual learners might map out timelines or analyze images, while those who thrive on discussion dive into debates about cause and effect. Today, I primarily tutor social studies online in one-on-one settings, which allows me to personalize every session even more. Whether a student needs help mastering Regents prep, understanding complex themes, or simply building confidence, I create flexible, supportive lessons that meet them exactly where they are.
I'm excited to bring that same energy and commitment to you! Let's make history something you look forward to.
