Hi I’m Savannah! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in English and I’m a TESL certified tutor with 3+ years of online and in-person experience. Hi I’m Savannah! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in English and I’m a TESL certified tutor with 3+ years of online and in-person experience. In college, my favorite professor told us that getting Cs was a good thing; if we got a C, that meant we had learned the grammar and reasoning needed to become English teachers. That conversation really stuck with me because I couldn’t remember a single time when a teacher told us that getting a C meant that we were doing good. That professor really encouraged us to succeed, and as your tutor, I will be a supportive presence who helps you improve your English and celebrates what you already know. No matter what level of English you’re at, you know more than when you first started learning, and that’s a beautiful thing!
I have three years of experience tutoring English to native and non-native speakers at San Diego State University in California. In one-on-one sessions, I helped college students develop their writing and brainstorming processes, assisted with their assignments and papers, and showed them how to implement professor feedback in their writing. I’ve also tutored in linguistics, specifically Ling 430: Grammar for English Teachers, where I conducted biweekly group tutoring sessions online and in person. During these sessions, I helped students learn grammar concepts like subject-verb agreement, adjectives vs. adverbs, sentence clauses, negation, particles vs. prepositions, grammatical voice, and diagramming sentence trees.
I also have experience tutoring 9th grade ESL and ELA students at Hoover High School in California. During class, I assisted students with pronouncing and defining new words in their online reading lessons, taking notes on concepts being taught during class and explaining them to students, participating in group discussions, and helping them complete in-class grammar tasks. While I’m most experienced in tutoring these levels, I’m happy to help learners of any age; I can’t wait to meet you and help you with English soon!
