Hi! My name is Ray and I've been a professional graphic artist in the printing industry for the last 6 years.

A lifelong creative, I first studied graphic design in 2017. I combined my design knowledge with my love for drawing, using both disciplines in personal projects, client work, and my day job. All together, I have 7+ years of experience in both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I've also amassed an online presence of 1.5k followers for my artwork, frequently sell my art at local events, and have about 30+ freelance gigs under my belt.

I like to understand each student's goals, whether career-oriented or skill-based, and tailor the curriculum to their needs. My teaching sessions include feedback on homework, slideshows, draw-overs, and time for questions and discussions. I use big concepts to teach ideas that can be applied in multiple contexts. Whether studying graphic design or illustration, the process remains the same!

Subjects:

Illustration: We start with fundamentals such as line quality, perspective, composition, and color theory. Once the basics are understood, we move on to learning anatomy, beginning with skeletal landmarks and then the attachments of major muscles to the bones. Next we will cover design, where I will show you a simple process for designing illustrations, characters, vehicles, or props. Lastly, we explore storytelling, the art of making your work interesting!

Graphic Design: Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. In Illustrator, we study everything from setting up your workspace efficiently to logo design and creating print-ready artwork. In Photoshop, we will go over basic to advanced digital drawing methods. Both programs will have lessons on workflow and efficiency.

Career: I'd also like to share what I've learned on the career side of things. I can offer portfolio feedback and advice as well as tips on getting freelance jobs or selling your own work!
