Not those moments when I memorized a long list of facts, but when I understood the logic, the hidden web of cause and effect, that connects those facts or concepts.
As a tutor, my goal is to help students understand the logic behind the facts or concepts they are learning. I don't just teach the material, I teach students to think about the material. Especially subjects like math, chemistry, and physics, which are my specialties, it is important to understand and not memorize. Otherwise when you get to the test, you will not be able to understand the questions.
To reach this goal when tutoring, I first make sure to go over the theory behind what the student is learning. Then, once the student has understood, I work through practice problems with the student. I do not give students the answers. I ask questions to lead the student to the answer, and teach them to think about the concepts on the way.
Most of the tutoring I've done has been one on one and online for high school and college students across a range of math and science topics. I have a record of helping students make the jump from failing to A's and B's due to my focus on ensuring that the student deeply understands the material during the lesson. When I work with a student, they gain understanding, confidence and drastically improve their grades.
