I grew up in a family of teachers and became one myself. I taught middle school math with the mindset of preparing them for high school math. I love helping students who struggle and finding ways to help them understand what they couldn't understand before. I have tutored a variety of different students and most of them say, 'I understand you when you teach me math.' I love helping students who struggle and finding ways to help them understand what they couldn't understand before. I have tutored a variety of different students and most of them say, 'I understand you when you teach me math.' I love tutoring because there is more one on one interaction with students to get to know them and their mind and to try to reach them where they are at and help them excel!

I tutored through a local company a few years ago and have seen all of my students' grades improve. Some have been as drastic as a low failing grade to a B. By the end of the year, my students have told me that they feel more confident in math now and wish that I could be their teacher! I have tutored several students through Wyzant as well. It has been a joy working with them and seeing them improve.

I don't teach just one method. I teach a variety trying to help the student learn and master the one they understand best. There is no one correct way of learning math. The goal is always to get the correct answer. There is the teacher's way of doing it; there is the parent's way of doing it; and there may be other ways of doing it that may make the most sense to the student. My goal is to find the best way for that individual student.

I graduated from Bob Jones University in Math Education. I have taught 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, PreAlgebra, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Statistics. As a result of teaching a wide variety of classes, I can tutor with the mindset of preparing them for what they will need to know in the future. I want to give them a strong foundation to be successful long term.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is my strong suit. My method of teaching Algebra 1 is by getting students used to writing each step to solve the problem. Yes, you can do it in your head, but wait until you get into Algebra 2. I want to train to show your work, so Algebra 2 is a breeze.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have both tutored and taught Algebra 2 in Greenville County. I have taught Algebra 2 at a High School as a student teacher. I have tutored multiple students using the same curriculum.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught as well as tutored many students in Geometry. Some teachers require that students know how to prove theorems. I will provide ways to help them prove theorems as well as learning the concepts covered in Geometry.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is where all the lapses in the student's math background come to light. My goal is for the student to fill in those gaps before they reach Algebra 1 and be successful on their own in Algebra 1. I have taught Prealgebra and tutored students and see them more confident in their math skills.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I have taught Precalculus and worked with different Precalculus curriculums. I know there is a lot of new material covered in Precalculus. I will help the student build on prior knowledge to understand it better.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is my favorite part of math, because it is like solving a puzzle. I would love to help give direction on how one side of the equation is equal to the other.

Patient Tutor

My daughter was "on the ledge" over her math grades so I decided to try out a tutor online. I decided to pick Josalyn as she really tries to connect with her students by using different strategies to find the best way for the individual to find the answer. Knowledgeable Tutor

Josalyn is a very good one-to-one tutor. She is helping my granddaughter with geometry. My granddaughter needed someone to fully explain the concepts that surround the skills needed to be successful in her geometry class. In her first lesson she was able to get a much better sense of how to think in geometry terms to solve problems thanks to Josalyn’s clear explanations. Josalyn is helping me with my Trigonometry homework. It is going great. She is very knowledgeable and is helping me to understand the concepts more thoroughly.
