Hello! I grew up in upstate South Carolina and completed my B.S. degree in Symbolic Systems (an interdisciplinary major of computer science, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy) at Stanford University. I have a lot of experience as a student, so I understand that learning can sometimes be a challenging process. I'm excited to offer my knowledge, energy, and skills to collaborate with you and overcome any academic obstacles! As your tutor, I hope to offer my focused attention while considering your motivations and interests to help you achieve your learning goals. Let's build up knowledge, skills, and confidence.
At the university level, much of my coursework was in computer science and psychology. However, because the world contains so much interesting, useful knowledge, I've dabbled in many other subject areas, as well, especially linguistics and philosophy (which were requirements for my major), and world languages (Spanish, Hindi, Khmer, and Japanese). In my free time, I peruse encyclopedias like Wikipedia and Britannica, play tennis and pickleball at my local parks, and practice piano and violin.
I have 2 years of tutoring experience as a peer tutor when I was in high school, where I was a member of several student organizations that offered general tutoring hours open to all students. This gave me the opportunity to practice explaining a great variety of concepts in a one-on-one setting. I also tutored students in all subjects, as needed, at a local after-school program, where the ages ranged from the elementary school level through the high school level. I sometimes work as a substitute teacher in a local school district.
I value creating a safe environment. I want my students to feel comfortable asking questions to support their learning. In addition, I appreciate feedback and ideas about how to improve lessons.
In order to make sure that our time is productive, please send any materials 48 hours in advance so that I can review them and prepare for our lesson!
