Alice Lloyd College (Biology)
I am a 52 year old man. I have a bachelor of science degree in biology/pre-med but I began college as a physics major so I have considerable background in most of the physical sciences and mathematics.
I began teaching in Kentucky in 1990 and continued to do so at various levels (K-12) until 2007. The majority of my teaching experience is with high school mathematics from pre-algebra to calculus, but I have also taught physics and chemistry as an adjunct professor at the college level.
I left teaching in 2007 to attend medical school but it became clear to me that being a medical doctor was not something that I would enjoy doing. So I left medical school to seek out new interests.
Here are a few examples of my past endeavors that may give you some insight into my commitment to excellence in performance and goal based achievement: As an academic coach my teams won numerous district and regional titles as well as two state titles. My teams at engineering competitions like the Team America Rocketry Challenge have done well too. Due to my experiences with coaching basketball, I have great interest and respect for team sports and athletics. I have also won tournaments in chess and scrabble.
If you need help with any math or science topics, then it is very likely that I can help you. Send an email to set up a time and place. I am a 52 year old man. What a great lesson! I left very happy and felt that I had broken down the the math problems I was having difficulty with. Ellis is a great teacher, he was patient and very attentive, I felt that he really enjoyed and cared about what we were doing. I recommend anyone to have him as a tutor. He is highly qualified on many subjects and I was lucky to have been tutored by him. Thank you!
Helped me better understand limits in calculus. I would recommend Ellis to a friend or anyone who is struggling to understand limits. We were able to review the problems that I missed on my test and clear up any confusion.
I will be returning for more sessions over the span of my college education. One session gave me the confidence I needed to attach tough calculus problems a second time. What I learned over the session empowered me to apply new knowledge and make my way through assignments independently. I'm so thrilled to have found such a wonderful tutor!
Ellis taught me different methods for studying the quantittative portion of the GRE. I'm not very good in math but he made it seem so easy! Can't wait for the second session.
It was so good to see my daughter feel more confident after one session. Looking forward to more sessions . Awesome tutor! Thank you so much for today!
Ellis has helped me during the semester with organic chemistry. He helped me go over details that maybe I had missed before but was important throughout the whole class. I feel I had a greater understanding of organic chemistry even though it is a hard class after tutoring with Ellis. Great tutor and would recommend!!!
Met for College Algebra review- Ellis was helpful and clear. He met with me on short notice and was understanding when I arrived a bit late due to logistics. Would recommend👍🏻
To begin, he set up the first session in a location that is absolutely perfect for tutoring. A private study room with a white board in a library. I started by letting him know what I don't know and how I learn. He took it from there and caught me up on the core concepts and then additional things I was having trouble understanding. It was all rooted in how I learn. The most basic calculus concepts clicked so easily. 10/10 will do again.
Ellis reviewed sine, cosine, and tangent of a right angle and how to find a missing angle and the side of a right triangle. Intro to trigonometry at first I didnt know what I was doing. I was so confused. Ellis thought me the basic concepts I needed to understand it. He explained it step by step so I was able to understand.
Ellis helped me understand the statistics material I needed to review. His instruction was very organized. He made the material make sense. I am scheduling another session with him.
Ellis helped my daughter with algebra. He was very knowledgeable, and patient. She was very pleased with his explanations, and teaching method.
Thank you Ellis
My son was struggling in Chemistry. He has had a couple tutoring sessions with Mr Ellis. Mr Ellis is a very knowledgeable and patient tutor. He goes at a pace to ensure my son knows and understand the material that he is currently studying in his class. His grades are improving and so is his confidence. Thanks Mr Ellis
Great teacher who helped tremendously. Puts things in a simple and easy.to understand way. Definately recommend for anyone struggling in math.
Ellis, helped me tremendously when it came to implicit differentiation in my calculus course. Before I met Ellis, I was feeling extremely lost and and the situation seemed hopeless. After meeting with Ellis I have a new confidence towards the material and it actually makes sense now! Ellis is an awesome tutor!
He really helped with cover a lot in an hour, and I feel like I have a better understanding of how to solve the different types of problems.
Ellis helped me with quantitative reasoning for the GRE. HE made it much easier to understand and was very patient with me. Very easy to get in contact with and responds promptly. I look forward to doing more sessions.
I enjoyed how he started with the basics and explained out to ensure and build your confidence in the understanding of the mathematical concepts. Something that i barely understood before I meant with him became crystal clear. I only wish he was my professor in school. Thanks for incredible first session
Mr. Reynolds is exceptional. I expressed that I had not accumulated the knowledge I needed to for the geometry portion of the GRE. He began from the basics using formulas that are easy to remember but pertinent to finding interior and exterior angles. He is clearly very knowledgable and is engaging and very motivating. He also has taken the GRE and is knowledgable about the material which he uses to guide his teaching. Would highly recommend.
Ellis is a excellent Geometry Tutor. He has guided my son thru Geometry this summer and we hope to use him some this coming school year in my sons Algebra classes. Great Tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored a number of college student in genetics. I received the top scores on all of the tests when I took the subject myself.
I have tutored many college students for the MCAT. When I took the test myself for medical school, I received a score of 36 on it: 14 in physical sciences, 12 in verbal reasoning, and 10 in biological sciences.
I have tutored many college students in organic chemistry. In college, I worked with the professor to prep the labs for other students. I received top grades on every test when I took the subject myself.
