Hi, I’m Kathryn! I recently graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Early Childhood Education and will begin graduate school for Speech-Language Pathology this fall. I have worked with children under 12 years old through years of babysitting, home health aide experience, several teaching practicums, and two teaching internships in K5 and 1st grade classrooms. I also served as a volunteer and later research assistant in the South Carolina Research on Language and Literacy (SCROLL) Lab. In the SCROLL Lab I gained valuable knowledge about supporting children with language and literacy needs, with a focus on dyslexia and developmental language disorders.
I specialize in early literacy, phonics, reading, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar for elementary students. Through my coursework and practicum experiences, I have used UFLI and supported students in small groups, one-on-one, and whole-group instruction using curriculum tools such as SAVVAS, iReady, and Progress Learning. One of my core beliefs is that every child brings unique strengths to the learning process. My focus is to build strong relationships and use student interests to make lessons individualized, engaging, and supportive. Students make the most growth when they feel seen, valued, and capable.
My lessons will be individualized to meet each student’s needs, with the belief that a student’s success is a collaborative effort. Because of this, I welcome any resources, suggestions, or insights that families can provide. If you have to cancel, please let me know 3 hours in advance. I would love to work with your students and support them in their learning journey. Feel free to reach out to learn more or to schedule a session with me!
