I am currently serving as a director of an after school program that assists students with homework and leadership skills. My passion for education started at a young age when I hosted study session with my friends in the 6th grade to help them make the Honor Roll. Since then I have tutored in various subjects and educational levels ranging from 3rd grad to college sophomore level classes. I have created various tutoring style and incorporate the importance of morale and leadership in academic achievement and performance.
My tutoring style will begin with a three step program; evaluation, research and analysis, and resolution stages. During the evaluation stage, I hope to talk to the students for a few minutes on why they believe they are having issues. Often times I find this is the best way of approaching and finding out information about how better to help student reach their academic goals. By reviewing and analyzing past failure and successes of assignments and tests, I will utilize my abilities to identify the basic area that poses a threat to the students performance. Taking social, physical, and other environmental factors into consideration, the research and analysis stage will use the steps suggested by the evaluation stage to see if the student can actually perform in various performance environments including testing and group thought. During the resolution stage, the student will complete the tutoring having the skills necessary to function in their respective classes, or the evaluation stage will begin again and different approach applied.
This system has had plenty of success in diverse populations of students. My experience in the STEM comes from a BS in Biology which included tutoring experience in various science subjects. My experience in the social sciences comes a minor in Psychology and a MS in Criminal Justice. Combined with education and experience, I hope to offer a wide range of services and be a reliable partner in offering quality and effective tutoring.
