Hello! My name is Stephen. I am a high school teacher at a magnet school from South Carolina. In my time in the classroom, I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and Statistics. I graduated in 2023 with a degree in Mathematics as a South Carolina Teaching Fellow. I have been tutoring on and off on the side for over 6 years. My experience has been with students from middle school through adults in college. My students have gained confidence in their math skills, seen an increase in grade performance, and I’ve enjoyed connecting with each of them through our time together.
My tutoring style consists of a blend of discovery and direct instruction. Students best learn concepts when they are able to postulate about them on their own. And there are situations where direct instruction from myself to you is also best. Within these teaching styles, I also find incorporating ‘I do, we do, you do’ into lessons and practice is also effective at having students become autonomous in their learning and math skills.
When I’m not tutoring, I’m watching a movie, playing a video game, or hitting the gym. Or I’m trying to get away from all of the aforementioned and travel.
