I have tutored students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade, fourth grade, and fifth grade in reading, math, language, vocabulary, speech, and phonics. My online tutoring has included working with preschool level students ages 4.5 yrs and up, engaging them in conversation and learning their alphabet. I have helped first, second, and third graders online learn to spell and read, using grade level phonics lessons and or oral reading or listening and answering questions about a passage. My in person tutoring for preschool through fifth grade level students gave me the experience so that I can modify my tutoring online to meet the needs of students.
I have been a Speech-Language Teacher, with experience teaching all qualified students in articulation or speech therapy. This year, 2020-2021, I hope to teach articulation skills online, beginning with teaching sounds in isolation as students qualify as candidates for learning specific sounds in isolation, syllables, then words. As the students who need the articulation therapy succeed in online therapy, I will keep helping them as they graduate up from learning the sounds in isolation, syllables, words, phrases, and sentences. I can help students on the conversational level too. If parents have the students' Individualized Education Plan with the articulation testing or articulation goals for the upcoming school year, I can target the sounds in their goals and they can see how well they can succeed online with me providing the modeling and feedback and keeping the percentage of accuracy as they progress.
I also plan to tutor Phonics grade levels first grade through third grade.
I can tutor some kindergarten students if they can read small kindergarten level paragraphs and answer reading questions.

Before tutoring for students met through this site, my tutoring experience included being a Bright Futures Tutor at Marion School District in SC, and before that helping with an after school program as a certified tutor of Bur

I work to teach the word recognition and sounding it out and then spelling it to the teacher when it is taken off the board. I work with grade level Spelling charts which have word patterns in word lists for each specific grade level. I have the child read the words then practice writing them 3-5 times each. Then, I work to help them use the words in sentences after they learn the words. I give Spelling tests and tell them exactly which words to practice for the Spelling tests.

Special Needs

My recent experience was working as the Speech-Language Teacher who saw students with Speech-Language impairments, autism, mental disability, or learning disability, integrating their speaking or language/grammar goals from their individualized education plans with elementary type subjects. I did this five years for the state of SC. I have most recently taken coursework which included tips on teaching reading, writing, or math to students with dyslexia. I learned tips for teaching slow learners in Jan. 2012 for my certificate renewal. This coursework was taught to me through the PBS Teacherline. The teaching method the course taught me to stress is repetition, and the course taught me that it takes up to twenty times sometimes for a new word or concept to be learned by special needs students who have learning disabilities that include memory problems or dyslexia or difficulties with learning writing skills. I also updated my knowledge of children's literature and my knowledge of more recently published literature in specific grade level lists. I assess interests of students and suggest videos that make them motivated to try to speak, read or write. Hopefully, students can benefit from my help if they have special needs and learning disabilities.

Great First lesson!

The first lesson went very well. She is patient with my daughter and has her set up on a good plan to help with her reading.

Patient and kind

My son likes Tammy as his teacher. He feels very comfortable speaking with her and taking class with her because she stays patient and kind. She also tries to make it interesting and fun for him especially since hes 5 years old with short attention span. He is usually shy about speaking but she has been able to keep him willing to cooperate and learn from her. Glad to have found her!

Great first lesson!

My daughters really enjoyed their first lesson with Tammy. It was all they talked about after she left and today (the day after) I arrived home from work to find them working on their homework assignments. Tammy listened very carefully to the girls attempts at reading and did a great job motivating them to work just a little bit harder on the tougher words and it was just that motivation that I was looking for in a teacher. We are looking forward to the next lesson!
