Bio

I am a biology/chemistry teacher, as well as a student myself, working toward a master's degree in strategic management and leadership in healthcare. I take learning very seriously. As for my teaching/tutoring methodology, I would say I believe in assisting students to learn how to be lifelong learners using critical thinking. It is part of my teaching philosophy, and so it is my goal to teach students how to ask questions, not only of me but of the world around them. I have taught students...

I am a biology/chemistry teacher, as well as a student myself, working toward a master's degree in strategic management and leadership in healthcare. I take learning very seriously. As for my teaching/tutoring methodology, I would say I believe in assisting students to learn how to be lifelong learners using critical thinking. It is part of my teaching philosophy, and so it is my goal to teach students how to ask questions, not only of me but of the world around them. I have taught students in Asian countries, the US, and across Europe, and one thing stands out- the critical thinking and imagination necessary to truly succeed in this world are not being taught in the traditional classroom.

In order to teach critical thinking in all subjects, I love to use games, audio, video, role-plays, discussion topics, props, etc to assist students in their learning. I am a firm believer in edutainment, and I believe if we are being entertained while we learn, not only is it easier, but it is also more fun, so we want to do more of it! When working with young English learners, I find that songs with videos really enhance the lessons teaching new vocabulary and grammar, and with math, when we learn certain "math magic", we discover that math isn't something to be afraid of, but rather a source of fun! I have helped students of all ages and abilities learn and perfect their English, reading, writing, math, science, and test-taking abilities, and I would love to help you!

Knowledgeable and very patient

I wanted my son to improve on his analytical and critical thinking skills. Terra has been doing an amazing job with my son. She provides him with various different types of exercises (eg. reading different types of texts, playing games and analyzing situations) that helps him develop better skills to tackle his school work and day-to-day situations. I am grateful to have found Terra!!

Very bad experience

We had a bad experience with this tutor. After the first lessons, we found her disorganized, and ill-prepared for her lessons. She once spent 15 minutes looking for an assignment to give my child. My child made no forward progress with her; in fact, he under performed because the tutor strayed from the lesson plan. The tutor had plenty of excuses for her ill-preparedness. The tutor agreed to a certain lesson plan but did not teach it during sessions. We canceled our sessions. It's a waste of time working with this tutor

Terra is amazing!

Terra started studying with my son for his GED about 3 months ago. We had tried traditional, online, and charter schools and nothing kept him focused or interested. A one to one study seemed to be our only option left to get him through high school. My son begrudgingly started studying with her and she had been wonderful. She has been able to get him talking and learning again. She is very knowledgeable and patient is an understatement as my son while finally making attempts is still a surly teenager with shaky motivation at times and she has handled our bumps in the road with kindness and understanding. I would highly recommend Terra as a tutor.
