Hi! I'm Heather, a PhD-prepared nurse and board-certified Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP-BC) with 17 years of experience as a nurse educator and over 25 years of clinical nursing practice. I'm an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina College of Nursing, where I teach health assessment, obstetric and maternity nursing, women's health, and clinical reasoning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
I tutor nursing students at all levels — BSN students working through foundational or complex coursework, and graduate students preparing for advanced practice roles or NCLEX/NGN board exams.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in authenticity, approachability, and accountability. I believe students learn best when they feel safe asking questions, sitting with uncertainty, and learning from mistakes — because that's exactly how great nurses are made. At the same time, I hold high expectations, because nursing carries real responsibility for patient outcomes.
What sets me apart is that I'm not just a teacher — I'm still an active clinician. I practice as a Women's Health NP, which means I bring current, real-world clinical examples into every session. I teach the way nurses actually think and work, not just the way it appears on paper. This is especially valuable for students preparing for Next Generation NCLEX, where clinical judgment and reasoning are everything.
Whether you're struggling to pass a course, preparing for boards, or building confidence before clinical rotations, I'd love to support you. Feel free to message me with questions before booking — I'm happy to chat about your goals and how I can help.
