I have always (since at least high school) enjoyed physics and was able to make it a very rewarding career! I have a MSc in Engineering Physics and a PhD in theoretical nuclear physics, both from Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. During my graduate school years I worked as a lab TA in wave physics and particle physics, which I enjoyed and appreciated. After my PhD, I moved to the US and continued my research for a few years before I switched to teaching, which I have now been involved in for 17+ years in different ways. I have taught physics and related topics to advanced high school students (I have taught at the SC Governor's School for Science and Mathematics, the NC School of Science and Mathematics, and the ME School of Science and Mathematics) and college students.
I have taught college level physics courses (algebra- and calculus-based) using a variety of Physics Education Research techniques, such as Peer Instruction, Inquiry-based labs, Context-rich group problems, and Flipped classroom. I have developed several labs for my physics classes and enjoy tinkering with them to improve them and make them more interesting for my students. I am an excellent physics problem solver. My goals as a teacher and tutor is to help the students to not only solve a specific problem but to understand how to apply the principles of physics to solve any problem, making the students effective and efficient problem solvers.
I have taught all 4 AP Physics classes, predominantly AP C Mechanics and E&M, I have been an AP reader in physics, an AP physics item writer, and have worked for ETS as a test developer and for College Board as a contractor proofreading supporting materials (exam descriptions and online problems). Given my background in the AP world, as a teacher, item writer, test developer, and trusted proofreader, I have a unique insight into how the AP exams work and how they are constructed, making my expertise invaluable for a student that wants to do well on their respective AP Physics exam.
