I specialize in advanced grammar and pronunciation. I also teach skills for adapting to American culture and casual conversational speech.

I have over five years of experience tutoring English writing and ESL. I tutor middle school, high school, and undergraduate students in English essay writing and general English grammar. I use rubrics to evaluate student essays and give feedback on project drafts, covering everything from thesis statements and paragraph structure to source documentation and citing. I am happy to help students in any of the phases of the essay writing process, including research and evaluating sources, outline planning, and proofreading. Tutoring sessions boost the student's confidence for their final submission in class. It also solidifies their understanding of key concepts and how they can meet their teacher's expectations to improve their grades. Need help with general English and writing skills? For ESL tutoring, I gauge the learner's English level so that I can give them lessons that meet their needs. I enjoy supporting students and watching them grow as they make progress toward their goals. I am comfortable working with students from any first-language background. I do know some Spanish and French. I am also comfortable taking beginners. I can create lessons for the student, or the student can bring their questions from school to get additional instruction.

Accent Reduction

I have worked with students both in the classroom and in private tutoring to assist them in accent reduction. We review the 11 vowel sounds that come from the 5 vowel symbols in English. I also use diagrams and minimal pairs to help students hear and speak consonant sounds such as / th, t, d, l, r /. English is a stress language, meaning syllable stress is very important for word meaning and intelligibility. I work with students to teach stress patterns and improve production, and students leave feeling much more confident to speak with others!

Great tutor and flexible

Grace is such a great tutor with very detailed and helpful guidance and notes afterwords. Always on time and flexible to work with us on scheduling. We had a tennis tournament to work around and didn't know our match schedule until the day before and she worked with us to make it happen. Very appreciative to be able to work with Grace and highly recommend her.
