I'm Kelly! I have a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with K-12 Certification and a Master's in Arts Administration. I love sharing my love of theatre and acting with others. I enjoy performing locally and supporting the arts community. As a classroom theatre teacher, I love seeing my students grow in confidence. I believe that theatre training is good for anyone. A theatre course will provide you with skills such as public speaking, creative thinking, problem-solving, text analysis and comprehension, collaboration, and perseverance. As a student, my best coaching experiences were those in which the acting coach listened and challenged me. I like to create a learning experience that is individualized to the student and based on their interest. I will recommend audition content, but I like to allow student choice. I use age-appropriate content and ensure time for students to rehearse material.
I have over 15 years of experience in teaching, directing, audition coaching, and acting. I have experience in both directing and performing in plays and musicals. My directing experience includes: The Lion King jr, The Little Mermaid jr, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and Cyrano de Bergerac. A few roles that I have had the opportunity to play are Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (Broadway World's Best Leading Actress in a Musical for South Carolina, 2018), Sophie in Mamma Mia, Ado Annie in Oklahoma!, and Laurey in Oklahoma!. My training is primarily in stage acting, but I have tutored students in film acting. I can specialize tutoring sessions that include audition preparation, public speaking preparation (science fair, speech, any public speaking engagement), acting, directing, or playwriting.
I want my students to get the best out of their learning experience. Therefore, I am open to suggestions and resources that students or parents would like to provide. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
