Hey everyone, I’m Coach Mark, thank you so much for checking out my profile. I’m a professional chess coach of 15 years teaching players of all ages and abilities, I’m a YouTube content creator (3700 subscribers), and chess app developer. I have recently released my own brand new app called Chess Pro Trainer to the Apple and Google Play Stores for download so that can be some really good homework, practice, and training for you in between our lessons.

I’ve played more than a half a million games of chess in my life so I have quite a bit of experience. My all-time high rating on chess.com is 2336. I've beaten many titled players over the years, and even have a couple of wins against grandmasters.

I was a chemical engineer for 10 years working in industry, so the math and problem solving skills required to succeed in that field translate well into chess. I’m a true teacher at heart though. After leaving engineering, and before starting my own full-time business teaching from home, I became a high school math teacher for a number of years, and was the head tennis coach of our high school, so teaching is in my blood. I'm addicted to helping others succeed by sharing my knowledge and experience. There is no better feeling than watching your student/client achieve their goals.

You're the boss and I’m here to serve you, but the typical way I structure my lessons is about 20-40 minutes of material, new concepts, openings, strategies, whatever you would like to work on, and the rest of the time playing games. There is no substitute for experience and I’m a firm believer in learning as you play and you will definitely have fun. I'm not a stickler about time and almost all of my lessons run over an hour and I never charge for the extra time. It's more important to me that you get what you need. I have taught Algebra 1 for 3 years, but as a Geometry teacher for 10 years with algebra incorporated into the curriculum, I feel as if I have 10 years of experience with Algebra 1.

I have taught chess to hundreds of students over the years, through 1-on-1 tutoring as well as in groups. I was the Chess Club sponsor for 10 years at my previous high school and organized the first ever inter-high school chess league in Augusta, Ga. I am a strong believer that the game of chess stretches the mind and keeps your brain sharp, which potentially translates to being focused in other areas of life. Most people love a good challenge, and chess continually offers that unique opportunity. I am qualified to teach all ages and abilities and am passionate about the wonderful game of chess.

Geometry is the subject I specialize in the most. I have taught Geometry for 10 years at every grade and skill level, and I consider myself an expert in this field.

Pre-algebra was the start of my passion for math. It is used in every day life, and as an algebra and geometry teacher for 10 years, I have an enormous amount of experience in this subject. Also, as an engineer working in industry for 10 years, I have a lot of experience in using this subject in the real-world.

My son loves working with Mark! It's the first time I have ever seen him actually get excited about learning! I believe it takes more than a degree to be a good teacher.
