I'm Rex and I graduated from Ball State University in 1984 with a degree in deaf education. I am certified to teach students with Mild and Moderate mental disabilities, and those with hearing impairments. I have also taught students with Autism and those with Learning Disabilities. I have taught the Four core subjects along with social skills and daily living skills.
My teaching style is not flashy, but it is effective. I introduce the topic or skill in an interesting way and then I use a three step process to teach the skill. I call it: I do. We do. You do. First, I introduce the skill to the student and model the skill to be mastered. Second, I guide the student as they complete the task. Third, the student independently completes the task. I monitor the student's progress and will go back a step if they are struggling so that we can move forward.
I have taught elementary math through pre algebra using various techniques that allow me to assess where a student is making a mistake.
I teach ELA skills using a phonics approach for beginning reading. Comprehension questioning skills are taught to those that can already read. Word exploration is used for vocabulary development at all levels. Writing is taught using key words to construct grammatically correct sentences.
