About Philip

I have taught both middle level and high school social studies courses and am noted for creatively and enthusiastically teaching not only the standards but the relevance of social studies. Growing up near the nation's capital, I have always been fascinated with government and history, and am able to effectively engage students to help them understand the cause and effect nature that makes social studies interesting and relevant.

I hold a current South Carolina teaching certificate and truly enjoy teaching, especially on a one-on-one situation where I can take the time to truly help my students understand more fully what they are studying.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I hold a current teaching certificate from South Carolina in Middle Level Social Studies.
I have taught high school and middle school social studies classes since 2008. I was teacher of the year at my last assignment for 2011-2012.
