Here's a little bit about me:

I currently work in Warwick, RI at a local biomedical device company full time as a Quality Engineer. I enjoy the outdoors and like to have a good time as well as keep my mind sharp by learning new things all the time.

My Education
I have a bachelor's in Chemistry from the University of Delaware (2006) and a Master of Science in Materials Engineering from Drexel University (2011). I have a general enthusiasm for History, Economics, and Government and keep up with current events and politics.

My Experience teaching
I recently taught as an adjunct professor of Chemistry at Rowan University. While I don't have a formal teaching certificate, I love teaching and my students appreciate my approach to teaching. Maybe I'll be your chemistry teacher one day!

I have tutored many friends throughout high school and college in chemistry. I have also tutored privately for several years.

My Philosophy
Chemistry and science in general are complex topics, but they can be taught effectively using everyday circumstances. Chemistry in its purest form is just about relationships. When people think of chemistry, they get caught up in numbers and complex science, but when the relationships between materials are shown, it all fits together like a puzzle. When it "clicks," it's so incredibly useful in daily life. This the primary technique of how I get my students to realize the cool things about chemistry and how to remember them.

I apply this same technique to history and government. Everything has a reason as to why it happened or existed. We create a mental ladder between events, laws, polices, etc. Whenever we come across a new one, we ask, "why?" As these "why's" are answered, the web of information grows and a greater understanding of the topic ensues.

About Me and My Hours
Currently, I work at a local biomedical company in Warwick, RI as a Quality Engineer during normal business hours and live nearby. For tutoring, I have flexible hours on Sundays, and evenings during the week. I ask for about 1 week's notice to start a new student. I need that for prep and for scheduling purposes. See my cancellation policy below.

Let's Get Going!
I'm a friendly guy with a lot of energy. The tutor student relationship is crucial to having a successful learning environment. I like to keep the environment relaxed, yet I demand private study and some productive work ethic both in and out of the tutoring session. I am not there to do your homework, I'm there to help you through the concepts so you can do the homework yourself. After all, I won't be there when you take the test!

See you at our first session!
Kevin

Cancellation Policy:
I make every effort to schedule my students around conflicts. I realize that sometimes there are sports practices or games, illnesses, etc and most of the time I can rework my schedule in a short amount of time. I will confirm appointments two days in advance and lock in my schedule. If an appointment is scheduled and then canceled or rescheduled before the 24 hour mark and I cannot "work my magic" to fix the situation, half an hour will be charged. If cancellation or rescheduling is requested within 24 hours of the scheduled start time and I cannot fix the situation, a full hour fee will be charged.

European History,

European History

I obtained a history minor while at the University of Delaware. I also took the AP exam in European history in high school and scored a 4 on the exam. I have a great interest in European history and have traveled to Europe several times specifically to see things I have learned in European history. I enjoy reading books on the World wars and how European relations affected the initiation and outcome.

Government & Politics

While I have no formal degree in Government and politics, I have a great passion for it. I took government classes in highschool scoring a 5 on the AP exam in Government. I encourage everyone to read and understand the constitution and its amendments. The best way to be an American citizen is to understand how our government works and participate!

Great tutor!

Kevin has tutored two of my boys. One is in Algebra 1, and the other is in Geometry and Trigonometry. Kevin is very patient and the boys are very comfortable working with him. He likes to motivate the boys to go as far as they can before he intervenes with helping them. I would highly recommend Kevin as a Math tutor!

So responsive and flexible

Kevin really cares about his students. He responds quickly to inquiries and adjusts his schedule to accommodate the student. My son was so hesitant about tutoring but Kevin made him feel comfortable and really made a difference. My son's confidence level improved and his grades did as well.

Knowledgeable and patient

Kevin, spent extra time and was very patient with my daughter to help her with college Chemistry. My daughter was apprehensive about taking the exam for Chemistry but Kevin made her very confident about her upcoming Chemistry exam. College Chemistry is extremely difficult subject but Kevin was able to simplify it to my daughter. I would definitely recommend Kevin for a tutor

Knowledgeable, Kind and Relevant Tutor

Kevin worked with my child who is just beginning physics. It is definitely a subject that does not come naturally to her. Kevin helped to make physics more "real world" for her. His approach is gentle and she gained a lot of confidence and understanding after her lesson. He relates well to teenagers! I would not hesitate to contact Kevin again.

Good Chem Teacher

Before the session, I was struggling on redox and oxidation problems in AP chemistry and had absolutely no idea on how to go about them. When Kevin and I scheduled to meet, he arrived right on time. I came into the session with an agenda and to learn all the things that were needed to catch up to the class. Kevin did a great job explaining to me in detail how these reactions worked and gave me more information so that I could do more complex problems on my own. Overall I would say that he is a good tutor and I'm looking forward to more sessions with him.
