Hi! My name is Mia, and I recently worked as a high school math teacher at a small boarding school during their summer session in July. I incorporated mindful learning principles into my teaching, where I encouraged my students' curiosity and unique perspectives in subjects such as Geometry, Algebra II, and Precalculus. I believe this approach to learning not only helps students gain a deeper understanding of the material (as opposed to rote memorization), but students get a richer learning experience overall. The class sizes I taught were anywhere between one to four students, so I made it a goal to get to know as much as I can about my students. I was able to cater my ways towards a diverse set of student needs, including learning disabilities such as ADHD and dyscalculia. I found that working with each student's individuality and personal goals tends to lead to the most success.

Right before this experience, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in May. During my senior year, I worked as a teaching assistant for Calculus, Probability, and Statistics courses. I also worked at WPI's Math Tutoring Center, where I offered one-on-one math support. Last summer, I worked as a summer camp counselor for "Girls Talk Math," a summer camp that aimed to make advanced mathematics more accessible to underprivileged young girls. I worked with a group of four high school girls, and together we tackled a challenging problem set in select topics in Knot Theory.

All in all, I love math, but I also completely understand if you don't. (In fact, most of my students did not like math at all.) However, because math is so interdisciplinary, I find it especially rewarding to find ways to introduce math concepts in a way that incorporates their interests. I am grateful and excited with this opportunity to help students reach their math goals. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have, so please don't hesitate to reach out!
