I am working on high level networks every day and troubleshooting random issues frequently. I feel like the study guides only provide a partial view of what Cisco, juniper and brocade devices are capable of. I have worked on all 3 platforms. Once I saw things in action and what they looked like not working I could better understand how it worked and what could go wrong.
