Do you find yourself struggling with exams or course material? As a current medical student at a top 10 US medical school who previously majored in Biology and Spanish at an Ivy League university, I have successfully faced many high-pressure academic environments, and use my experience to help others who struggle with academic and test anxiety. I also offer college and medical school application and essay counseling for students looking to become more competitive or polish their applications.

I love to help others find the joy in learning, and have tutored K-12 students in SAT preparation, science, and Spanish for 9+ years. More recently, I have worked with several students to create and execute MCAT study plans for medical school applications. Working with varied student populations taught me how to harness students' unique learning needs to make exciting, positive educational experiences. My tutoring style focuses on developing problem-solving over memorization, so that students are able to apply and enjoy what they learn. I create individualized lesson plans for each student, emphasizing their learning style and challenges, and use interactive tools to foster a love of learning. I've found that this helps students develop confidence that they can utilize in all areas of their lives.

I have taken a multitude of standardized tests, including AP tests, the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, and the MCAT, and offer test preparation in these areas. I scored in the top 1% of the SAT (1570/1600), scored 5's on 12 AP exams, and received a 520 on the MCAT (97th percentile). I also graduated as valedictorian of my competitive high school class.

In my free time, you can find me playing saxophone or enjoying the outdoors! I have also worked as a Spanish-language medical interpreter, licensed EMT, certified medical assistant, and community health worker; I am passionate about connecting students to careers in medicine and community health. I have also tutored students before ISEE exams for entrance into competitive private schools. They all increased their grades and/or scores substantially, and felt more comfortable and confident in a test-taking environment! I focus on assessing students' areas of strength and weakness in order to improve their critical problem-solving and analysis skills, which can subsequently be used in a variety of academic and non-academic environments. Smart and energetic SAT Tutor!!

Sophie helped me SO MUCH with my SAT math prep! I didn't feel good about my upcoming exam but she helped me practice problem-solving and test taking strategies. I just took a practice exam and my score increased from a 730 to a 770 with just one lesson!! HIGHLY recommend this tutor!

Wonderful SAT tutor

I didn't get the score I wanted on my last SAT, so I started looking for tutoring. I found Sophie and I am so happy and scoring so much better on my practice tests! She explains the material in detail and makes sure I understand it when I'm confused. She also sends me practice questions and a link to review materials, and even made me a study plan that I can use. She's fantastic and I'll be using her for other subjects too!!
