Hi! I'm Sophie and I'm a freshman at Brown University, planning to major in International Relations. I've recently moved to Providence from Melbourne, Australia.

Hi! I'm Sophie and I'm a freshman at Brown University, planning to major in International Relations. I've recently moved to Providence from Melbourne, Australia.
At home during my gap year I was a freelance tutor, teaching English, French, and maths to students of all ages. I also worked several days a week as an 'Academic Coach' at Melbourne Girls Grammar School (MGGS), offering support in all subjects for girls in grades 9-12 as well as facilitating their pastoral care. Additionally, I spent summer 2019 working as a horse-back riding coach for nine weeks at a summer camp in the Poconos.
Now that I have relocated, I am looking to work in a similar capacity as I am already missing teaching! I am looking forward to meeting more people from the Providence area and hopefully offering a quality tutoring service to new students.
I've studied French since elementary school and have attained fluency, I received a 710 on the French SAT subject test, and I am now studying senior-level French (specifically French feminist theory) at Brown University. As a non-native speaker I have been through the pain of learning French grammar and developing a French accent, and I have techniques to help others achieve the same. I have tutored French for a year, both to individual clients at home in Australia and as a part-time academic coach at MGGS.
I received a 36 on both ACT English and Reading, and a perfect score of 800 on the Literature SAT subject test. I have two years of experience tutoring English and Literature to clients of all ages and students at MGGS, and I've taught a host of skills, from spelling and reading comprehension to academic essay writing. I'm incredibly passionate about reading and writing -- most of my college courses revolve around this -- and I love sharing these skills as much as I enjoy using them in my own life.
I aim to tailor my tutoring program to the individual student. I'm on call 10am-10pm every day to help with problems that arise outside of lessons, I provide essay correction
