After earning my BA in English (Honors) from the University of Connecticut, I am now an advanced PhD candidate in English Literature at Brown University, where I work primarily on 20th-century American and African-American literature. I also hold an MA in English Literature from Brown University.

I have taught writing workshops, college admission essays, rhetoric and composition, American literature, the fundamentals of an academic essay, creative writing (fiction), and other writing-oriented topics at Brown University, Summer@Brown Pre-College, and Johnson & Wales University. I am currently an Interdisciplinary Opportunity Fellow in Writing Pedagogy at the Harriet W. Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning at Brown University. I also have 5+ years of experience tutoring in writing and English literature.

I work primarily with high school, college/undergraduate, and adult learners. I specialize in writing (from academic, creative, or job market materials), college admission/graduate essays, American/British literature, and proofreading/editing. However, I am happy to help with all your writing needs!

I am also proficient in various citational styles (MLA, Chicago, APA) and I have experience working with students in the humanities, social sciences, and STEM. My firm belief in “practice makes perfect” informs my tutoring style, so you can definitely expect collaboration shared between myself and the student, as well as creative prompts and exercises to foster growth!

In my free time, I'm an avid creative writer, reader, amateur baker, tea connoisseur, and fantasy enthusiast. At the heart of my tutoring pedagogy, I not only want students to understand the material but also make sure you enjoy the learning process!

ACT English

On top of being a dedicated, hard-working student invested in English and literary studies, I tutored at the University of Connecticut as a Writing Center advisor for 4+ years and served as a classroom assistant in English at a local high school for 1+ year, all of which helped me become incredibly proficient in grammar rules and conventions frequently utilized on the English section of the ACT Test. I have consistently received perfect scores on the ACT English prep since familiarizing myself with the test over five years ago, so I am also highly familiar with tips and tricks to ensure you or your child succeeds during the big test day.

I am a positive, upbeat tutor eager to help you get to where you need to be in your reading skills, including for the ACT! As an editor, writer, and writing tutor with 5-6 years of experience, I have helped secondary and undergraduate students review and hone their vocabulary usage, implementation of literary devices, understand narrative structure, and more.

Brianna was great! Initially, I was confused about the expectations of my class. Brianna was able to read the Syllabus with me and better clarify the expectations of my class. I feel more knowledgeable and confident about my overall success in my class. I plan to continue receiving tutoring from her on a regular basis. She is AWESOME!
