About Julia

Bio

I've been tutoring English since I was an exchange student in Japan, and immediately fell in love with it. Tutoring allows me to fit individual students' needs exactly, and watch them grow and learn in response. Since my high school turning years, I have been teaching and tutoring English literacy skills, phonics, and the visual arts.

I write novels in my free time, play fiddle, and paint. My degrees are in education and fine art. I'm fluent in English and French, and my Japanese will limp...

I've taught drawing, printmaking, and painting to students of all ages for years. Art journals, plein air, and much other experimental fun can be had via online learning!

Together, we'll make sure you learn what you need to. Engage with the subject in a way that doesn't make you feel stuck in your own head. Like all of you, I've gotten a fair dose of online interactions lately! Unlike some tutors, though, I've been doing online learning and tutoring for years. Let's make this fun :)

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Julia took the time to find out my style and level along with what I wanted to work on. She had great advice and walked me through new techniques and exercises adding vibrant colors and gave tips for experimenting. It was a very good first session.

Knowledgeable and fun!

Julia began to teach me about oil painting, which was totally new for me. She broke it down into easy steps, gave lots of information and made it fun! The session surpassed my expectations.

Wonderful tutor

Julia has been tutoring my 6-year-old in French. I was worried that remote learning would not work with such a young learner. I needn’t have been! Julia makes the lesson fun; she’s able to switch tracks and roll with my daughter’s whims and willingness on any particular day. She’s infinitely patient and compassionate. She is just best.
