I graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Rhode Island chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, and I received my degree with Honors in Literary Arts. My passion has been reading and writing fiction for as long as I can remember, but aside from literature, my greatest joy has come to me from teaching and tutoring. I began tutoring in high school, working as a volunteer to help elementary school students in all of their subjects, and I was also something of an unofficial tutor for my friends and peers. My interest in teaching only grew while I was in college: I taught two full SAT courses with Ivy Insiders in 2010, helping 12 students achieve their SAT goals, and I am currently working as a private tutor in all subjects and as an SAT instructor with Kaplan.
My past experience as a tutor and an SAT instructor has prepared me to tutor in just about any subject up to the high school level, but I am fully prepared to tutor in any college level literary subject. As a tutor, my greatest focus has always been on helping students find excitement in the subject they are working in: I find that a genuine interest in any given subject is prerequisite to dramatic improvement, because one's interest in a subject goes hand in hand with one's confidence in one's abilities. Whenever I find and encourage a student's genuine interest, I am able to foster his or her confidence so that soon he or she will feel ready to grow and develop without my help. This, to me, is of the utmost importance, because a tutor should not be a crutch for a student's success: it is the job of the tutor to develop a student's skills and abilities for long-term success, not to help a student simply get a better grade on the next essay.
