Hello, my name is Khyra, and I have a strong passion for English, reading, writing, and the humanities. In high school, I served as a tutor through the National Honor Society, where I worked with students on subjects ranging from core coursework to AP-level classes. I particularly focused on tutoring in AP Literature, AP Language, and ACT English/Writing, helping students enhance their reading comprehension and develop strong analytical writing skills.
Beyond tutoring, I’ve challenged myself through rigorous academic programs, including MIT’s MITES program and Cornell’s Catalyst Academy for Engineering. While these opportunities were STEM-focused, they sharpened the same skills used in tutoring: critical thinking, problem-solving, and clear communication. I’ve found that my background in both the humanities and STEM allows me to bring a unique perspective to teaching.
My tutoring approach is collaborative and tailored, focusing on building both confidence and independence by breaking down complex tasks into clear, manageable steps. In English and the humanities, I guide close readings, strengthen writing skills, and emphasize transferable skills such as organization, analysis, and critical thinking that support success across all subjects.
Thank you so much for reading this. I can’t wait to work with you!
