My name is Ronan, my pronouns are he/him, and I am excited to begin tutoring through Wyzant! I have a degree in linguistics from Brown University and just returned to Providence from a post-baccalaureate program in Philadelphia. I recently took the MCAT and am currently applying to medical schools.
My tutoring experience has been primarily with my post-bacc classmates, most of whom were career changers and had little to no background in hard science. I helped a group of 5 of my classmates orient to science in our first two (summer intensive) semesters of general chemistry. In the fall I found I had a natural affinity for organic chemistry which allowed me to teach to my study group. Throughout the year I also tutored them in physics and math skills as needed. I have had many teaching-adjacent jobs, mostly working with kids, and I've always enjoyed trying to impart my enthusiasm onto my students through my actions and encouragement. I also get satisfaction out of students' satisfaction and often pride at learning or mastering information or a skill, which was especially true while helping my fellow medical hopefuls get strong grades and MCAT scores.
My ACT math score was a 35, with especially strong pre-algebra/elementary algebra and algebra/coordinate geometry subsection scores, and I finished Calculus I as a freshman in college with an A-. In the Chemistry/Physics section of the MCAT I scored in the 99th percentile.
My ACT science score was a 34. I had a 4.0 GPA for my post-bacc year of 8 premedical courses: general chemistry (I & II), organic chemistry, physics (I & II), biology (I & II), and biochemistry. I have additional foundations in biology, general chemistry, and physics I through AP and college coursework. The organic chemistry course for my post-bacc was a semester-and-a-half intensive 6-credit class, and I finished with an exam average over 100% (class average of 76%).
